There are several words that fit each of those and over the years preferences in the community have shifted back and forth.

I just came up with an idea of making a script that would download all the translations, search for these common words in the source strings and see if any of the common translations and mistranslations are in the translation for that string. Then it could form up a web page with statistics of the mistranslations and possibly even links to specific instances to allow for corrections. It would also find new mistranslations :)

How other translation teams handle this problem?
SBackup new beta - test and translate please!http://aigarius.com/blog/2007/05/21/sbackup-new-beta-test-and-translate-please/2007-05-21T13:05:23Z2007-05-21T13:05:23ZAigars Mahinovs
With great help from Ouattara Oumar Aziz an new version of SBackup is shaping up in the svn repo and a day ago I created a public beta version - 0.10.4~beta10 which can be downloaded here.
Please report any bugs or regressions to Sourceforge bug tracker. Also an update for translations and new translations can be added. You can either translate in Launchpad or download the template file from the SVN. But beware that there are more translations in Launchpad then in the SVN at the moment, so check there first.
If no blocker bugs are found, we could see a new stable release of SBackup in a weeks time. I am sure that a lot of people will be happy to hear that :).

Edit: For some reason, the DEB on the Sourceforge site was cut to third of its size, I uploaded a new version, it should be fine now. And by popular request here is a screenshot, note that by using simple timing the /etc/cron.{daily,weekly,monthly} folders are used and thus anacron runs the backups if the computer was off at the scheduled time.

Debian Extremadura I18N meeting 2006 photoshttp://aigarius.com/blog/2006/09/09/debian-extremadura-i18n-meeting-2006-photos/2006-09-09T23:09:51Z2006-09-09T23:09:51ZAigars Mahinovs

The I18N meeting in Extremadura is almost over - tomorrow everyone is leaving to the airport at different times. So, enjoy the group photo of the meeting. And if you click the photo, that will bring you to a Frickr photoset that contains all the other good photos that I took at this meeting. A few people came up and offered some help, but out of that only new icons and a command-line parameter parser were fully developed - other developers just took a task or a an idea and disappeared.

However this week my trust in Open Source development model was reinforced by Jonh Wendell. He approached me yesterday about localising SBackup to Portuguese and was also willing to add the i18n support that was needed for that. I gave him all the details he needed and forgot about it. But today he came back with working code and a translation.

That really inspired me to resume working on improving SBackup one little it at a time. Expect a new release version 0.10 soon with i18n and a few long awaited bugfixes.

Also, if you want to translate SBackup to your language - use this file as your template. There are only 75 strings to translate.

P.S. One happy user of SBackup donated some of his time cleaning up SBackup wiki from spam. Thank you for that! Now I only need a way to prevent the spam from coming back there :(
Here is my friend lastguru - the second ...http://aigarius.com/blog/2005/12/02/here-is-my-friend-lastguru-the-second/2005-12-02T00:12:00Z2005-12-02T00:12:00ZAigars Mahinovs

Here is my friend lastguru - the second most active photographer on the AnimeFest3. He is trying to get a shot of the audience, but while he is doing that, I got a shot of him :)

Yesterday I discovered a great surge in popularity of SBackup - just on SourceForge around 700 people downloaded it in a period of three days (compared to ~250 total downloads before that) and some new bugs were filled.Only then I remembered about the interview I gave over the email, looks that it was published on Monday. Fun. Now the plans for a good rewrite are even more prominent on my ToDo list and I am also thinking about trying to get all developers of similar tools to unite in the context of this rewrite. This will bring all their good features in (encryption, per-user subconfiguration, removable media support, config on server option) and ensure continued development of the project even if I get a bit lazy on it ;) A confederation for simple yet feature complete Linux backup solution?

Also today we have a very good milestone - translation of Debian Installer to Latvian language has just reached 100%. I thank greatly our new contributor - Orvils from Latvian University who did bulk of the work. I still had to spend around 6 hours reviewing and correcting his translations and then updating the translations that changed or were added during the time that Orvils was translating, but it was much faster then it would have been it the translation was only up to me :)
